It Started with a Rash

We noticed baby Frank had a really bad rash yesterday... all over his trunk, neck and some of his face...

Since we have not changed detergent or given him any new foods I decided to call the doctor because it was getting worse

All day Frank was obviously not feeling well... he was really not eating or drinking and extremely {sensitive}... He would go through intermittent periods where I could tell his tummy was hurting him really bad... be would pull his knees into his chest and scream every time I tried to lay him down... 

So off to the Pediatrician we went... and he was actually looking a bit more comfortable in the car... cuddling with his Gund bear and not crying or screaming

All of that changed at the doctors, he was clearly not feeling well {no fever, no ear infection; no vomiting... just that stupid rash} he was screaming in agony the entire time we were there... the Pediatrician knew something was really wrong... she said his bowel sounds were sounding very slow, and she was extremely concerned that he possible had an Intussusception... he was showing many of the symptoms, another doctor came in to check him out and they both were afraid it was an Intussusception and they wanted me to take him to the ER... so I get his coat on, get all packed up and head out the door when I am stopped by the doctor... she has called an ambulance to take us to Dayton Children's because they think it is too serious for me to drive him... trying not to have a complete mental break down... I called Daddy frank as we climbed into the ambulance and head to the ER... 

He was in total agony for the nurse, the resident, two pediatricians and they all wanted him to be tested right away... typical test for Intussusception is an Air Enema... which is probably as comfortable as it sounds... but we were lucky enough to have a radiologist who felt confident in diagnosing from a less invasive ultrasound... Daddy Frank arrived just in time to help with the ultrasound... baby Frank still not feeling well at all had a complete melt down during the ultrasound {imagine if he had the enema!}... but we eventually got him to fall asleep on daddy's lap so they could finish the test!

After waking up 10 minutes later... he was a bit fussy at first... but quickly appeared to be back to his normal self! He was not in pain, was not screaming or crying... but he was laughing and flirting with the nurses again as usual... he even ate Cheerios and drank both his sippy cups!

The ultrasound and x-ray did not show an  intussusception... the doctors are not sure what was wrong with our little Frank... they said  in some cases, intussusception may only be temporary and improve on its own without treatment.... just to monitor him and hopefully he will be fine! We were very happy to be able to take our baby home and for him not to need surgery!

He seems to be doing much better, however... he still has that viral rash!
