Navy Commissioning

Today was a special day for Frank4 and our family because it marked his last day as a Marine and his first day as a Naval Officer. Frank4 decided to accept the HPSP scholarship for medical school, and today he was commissioned into the Navy as an Ensign. He will be on active duty once he finishes medical school, doing his residency in a naval hospital then serving for 4 years after residency. Frank's old roommate Eddie Schmitt, who is also going to be a military doctor (he is an officer in the Air Force) was able to swear in Frank4. The Hartge grandparents and Sue Gernetzke also came to watch the ceremony. Frank4 will be the second Hartge to serve as a doctor in the Navy (Frank2 was a dentist for the Navy). We are very proud of daddy frank!!

All I want for Christmas is my two front Teeth...

The frankster was not his usual happy self on Monday... nothing seemed to make him happy or feel comfortable... then last night daddy noticed that there is another tooth breaking trough frank5's gums... well no wonder he was uncomfortable! Last month his upper left lateral incisor decided to make an appearance... now it looks as though his upper left central incisor is breaking through... again the teeth may not be arriving in the most conventional of order... leaving our little man with a very crooked smile... but it is funny that he now has his two "top" teeth or Christmas... maybe the right central incisor will arrive in the next two weeks...

**The pictures are not the best... we will try to get a better one once the tooth completely breaks through the gums.

Trying to get him to smile big

i see two teeth up there!

what a crooked little smile :)

Hat CrAzY

Baby frank is well know to have a wide variety of hats... while I was cleaning his room this morning I found this blue/white rimmed hat I have been looking for since October... and I put it on his head to see if it still fits... now typically frank5 will rip the had off his head within a few minutes... but he appears to really like this hat... It has been about two hours now and he has not even tried to remove it! I kind of reminds me of that Kenmore washer/dryer commercial where the little boy's security blanket is his knit hat... I keep hearing "imaginary girl" by Silver Seas in my head... we shall see how long he keeps it on....

Mommy's Breakfast

Recently when I eat my bowl of cereal for breakfast, baby Frank will crawl over to me, climb up my legs and sign "more"... Even though he hasn't had any cereal yet I know he wants a bite of mommy's cereal (he does the same thing if we are drinking juice too)... Since it is only Raisin Bran I let him have a bite and he just can't seem to get enough... I was laughing so hard this morning I had to take some pictures

YUMMY! that is good stuff!

Santa Clause is Coming to Town

Baby frank received his first Christmas gift in the mail yesterday from The Anderson Family. Since yesterday was the Feast day of St. Nicholas... (many of you may know his as Santa Clause) I thought it was only appropriate he could open his present and play with it before Christmas... even if we forgot to put his shoes out... The second I took the train out of the box he couldn't stop playing with it... I guess Luke and Drew told Megs exactly what little boys like!

I also decorated for Christmas today... we have a "little" tree this year because I didn't want frank5 to pull on it or take it down... and of course it is fake... I love everything about the holidays but I DO NOT like real trees for many reasons... (much to frank4's dismay)
1) I was extremely allergic to pine as a child
2) nothing is worse then putting lights on a tree... yeah for pre-lit trees!
3) Frank5 likes to eat pine needles... imagine if he had a direct food source in our house.
4) I have a notorious black thumb and kill any plants that are unfortunate enough to pass my way... so a Christmas tree would not even stand a chance in my care.

That being said i think our little Charlie Brown tree looks pretty cute!

I tried to get a picture with his shoes... but they just distracted him

Our Little Tree

Grandma Hartge gave baby Frank a "Baby's First Christmas" Ornament

With the exception of a few ornaments on the tree they are all of the ornaments are from St. Jude ( I bought them last year at Christmas in July before I left)... I was very excited to hang all the little stars (as seen below) and Christmas ornaments painted by the children. They looked so cute on the tree I had to add a picture to the blog.

Best Present Ever!

While at the Generations Holiday show, Karl Kuntz the photographer was extremely nice to me and took some pictures of Frank5 in all the holiday scenery... I could not choose which of the many pictures I liked the best to put on the blog... so this may be a very picture heavy entry with pictures that look extremely similar... but ohhh well... maybe you can vote and choose which one you like best...
